Jane Phillips is an award winning photojournalist and fine arts photographer with more than 15 years of experience at newspapers, wire services and magazines. Her photography has been exhibited at shows in New York City, Maine, and Santa Fe and has published in several books.
Born and raised in New York, Jane Phillips now resides in Santa Fe and works at the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper. Her art combines an East Coast sensibility with the imagery of the Southwest. She approaches her subjects with a sense of humor while capturing the spirit and soul of those she portrays. Chosen from more than 1100 entries worldwide, her photograph "Cigarette Break" garnered first prize in the Santa Fe Center for Photography, Singular Image Color Category in 2005.
Phillips earned a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her work experience includes New York Newsday, New York Times, New York Post, UPI and both the Maine and Santa Fe Photographic Workshops.
Jane Phillips is available to document the human experience in diverse environments. Her work is recorded with 35 mm digital or film media. She is readily accepted within many cultures and works unobtrusively to insert the camera's eye within the event.
